@moomooiWhat does joy mean to you?
Creating something beautiful and connecting with people.
What are some of the small things you celebrate?
Trying something new, making it to the gym, taking the stairs, getting outside, morning coffee, standing up for myself in big or small ways, people going out of their way to be nice.
Tell us about a really special time in your life, and why you treasure it.
Motherhood, which has defined the last 17 months of my life, has been a really special time where my responsibilities have extended beyond my own immediate needs. I treasure it because it's the most biologically mundane yet spiritually magical life experience I can think of for a woman-- what a paradox!
We all have trying moments. What is something positive you did or chose to focus on to keep you moving forward?
What a great question! It has been a lifetime's worth of work (that continues) to train my mind to move on from anxious thoughts to find new neural pathways... after all, we have much more control over our mood and happiness than we think. The power is within us and the mind is a muscle that one can exercise to perform in certain ways. Instead of focusing on toxic people, situations, and scenarios (as is my habit!), I actively try to spend my energy focusing on the many people who send love my way. My Instagram "Flower Girl Tribe" is a great point of focus for positivity and productivity. Why give up mental real estate to anything that will bring you down when often it's not in your control?
Tell us about someone who's been a positive influence
in your life.
My mother is such a positive influence in my life. She continually inspires me with her intellectual curiosity, boundless warmth and energy, and most of all sense of humor and playfulness.
